Cicada markets

Syl and I headed out to this weekend night market, leaving the kids to dine in the resort. We cruised through town in air conditioned comfort to the bustling Cicada market.

This is a pretty glamorous place. It is brilliantly lit, with fairy lights everywhere, as well as huge colourfully lit figures and statues scattered around. The food stalls are coordinated, the seating pleasant and there is live music in three open venues....we plonked ourselves down to drink table service, a beer and a pretty capable rendition of Metallica and gunners covers. The emphasis is on local handcraft and food. We might have seen one too many markets, because we were content to wander, rather than buy. That said, this is a delight to wander through....rivalling Chiang Mai's walking street market for charm.

When it was time to leave, Syl spotted a sign saying taxi and we negotiated a 400 baht ride home. The taxi was a ute with bench seats in the back! Back at the report, the elderly security guard saluted as we drew up. Saluting our courage, I presume.
